design aims
The proposed landscape design included specimen tree planting, ornamental shrub plant beds, formal hedging, native hedging, scrub planting, marginal planting, bulb planting, turf, and wildflower meadows. These proposed landscape features were to soften views of the proposed development with perimeter planting, enhance street scenes, enhance public open spaces with informal planting, provide structure tree planting and formal hedge planting, and create additional wildlife habitat. A new access road from Garstang Rd meant the removal of an existing hedgerow; however, this loss was compensated for with proposed additional native hedging and internal formal hedging. Recommendations of the ecology report included retaining as much of the native hedgerows as possible and trees marked with bat roost potential. Several bird and bat boxes were also proposed to enhance the site's biodiversity following the development.
