LancasterSUMMARY
As part of the proposal to extend an existing wind farm east of Lancaster with the addition of new turbines, we were called upon to assess the impact on vegetation from site access, particularly the delivery of turbine blades. With existing access restricted to narrow tracks, the client needed to identify a route that provided a good level of access given the site topography and limited the impact on vegetation, including hedgerows, trees and mature woodland.
Our survey crossed fields, streams, ditches & hillsides but we were able to confirm a route that was capable of handling the size of plant required to install these large turbines. Liaison with the client team and local planning authority was needed to ensure both viability and compliance with legislation and planning policy, whilst minimising any potentially negative impacts on the local landscape.
